- I fished Assateague Island, VA for the
usual fall quarry, stripers, specks and
flounder. I managed to keep the skunk
off everyday with at least one fish. I
caught stripers, flounders and hickory shad
- the largest was a 27" striper.
Conditions were fair to poor due to limited
water clarity. Winds ranged from 2 to
over 20 mph, most NNE. Beach structure
for the fly fisherman was less prominent
then in past years. The best structure
occurred at parking lots P2-P4 and at the
ORV entrance. Fish these spots at low
tide or low-to-mid on the incoming
tide. Bait was scarce accept at the
inlet where hickory shad were crashing
2" long minnows. Anglers
commented the stomach contents of the larger
stripers contained ling or hake and manta shrimp.

- Happy
Thanksgiving!
Now is striper time - if you enjoy fishing
for striped bass, this is the time to be
fishing. I've found over the years
that from Thanksgiving through to the first
week of December to be one of the best times
to fish for large striped bass (+ 20
pounds). My preferred fishing spot, Chesapeake's
Virginia Eastern Shore. Take nothing
less than a 9 weight, intermediate line,
your biggest Deceivers and some Vineyard
Minnows
and find a fishy
looking spot
on the beach.
