29Dec05
- After looking at the predicted weather for
today and the next few days I don't foresee
the Little Lehigh Creek improving much;
currently it's running at 129 cfs. The 59
year historical median for today is
approximately 75 cfs.
.
27Dec05 - I
fished the Little Lehigh Creek (PA) between
1:00 and 2:30 PM. Conditions were less than
optimal due to the recent rains. The creek
was elevated and dirty. Air temperature was
in the low 40's and the stream flow was
approximately 150 cfs. Based on past
experiences, I would expect the creek to
return to normal by this weekend. I managed
to catch 3 rainbow trout all on a size 16
Oliver Edward's Hydropsyche Caddis Larva. I
had looks but no takes on a size 10 olive
wooly bugger. A majority of fish were
hanging tight to the hatchery-side of the
bank. After fishing I drove west to Cabela's
(Exit 29 B). As of yesterday, they had
several "good" patterns discounted. The best
discount I noticed were size 12 comparduns
marked down to $0.49 each. These discounts
appear only to be available through their
regional stores and not online at cabelas.com.

19Dec05 -
Thought I'd add some humor with my own "top
ten" list.
.
Top 10 ways you
know you're hooked on fly fishing:
10. Just being
on the water is enough.
9. A stack of
fly fishing magazines permanently resides in
your bathroom.
8. You enjoy
telling fishing stories, even to
non-fishermen.
7. Your last
cast turns into another ten.
6. You find
yourself staring at any body of water as you
pass by.
5. Your living
room has random flies lying around.
4. Once a year
you find a fly stuck to an article of
clothing.
3. You find your
own fly tying material (Angel Hair/Flashabou)
at work or in the gym.
2. You begin
naming the fish at your local stream.
.
And the number
one way you know you're hooked on fly
fishing:
1. You spend
more time figuring out the morning's fly
selection than your own breakfast!

25Nov - 01Dec05
- I fished Chincoteague and Assateague
Island (Virginia side) and managed to land
seven fish between 21 and 44 inches. All but
one fish were in the 20-inch class. Water
was clear at first but turned dirty towards
the end of my trip. All fish were caught
using a 3/0 olive
Vineyard Minnow.
